Things I made

NMX23

It's been far more complex than I expected. Bit by bit it has drained my energy and taken over my life. But, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The NMX will soon go live. And I am quite excited.

I'll be updating this again soon, but, for now, you'll just have to wait! (This post is just a teaser that I am using to test the NMX aggregation.)

Damn I hate consequences

Debian Fully Automated Installation Overview

I spent a good while building a high availability infrastructure for LondonTown.com. We built our webserver infrastructure on an automated installation system called FAI. Since this is a rather complex but critical system, it needed to be explained in a way that people found interesting. I do have a kind of obsession with visual technical documentation, so, made this diagramin an attempt to communicate how the whole system worked.

If you happen to be interested in FAI, or visual technical documentation in general, I would be happy to get some feedback. I would be especially interested in whether or not anyone found this document actually useful! The environment defined is perhaps not entirely generic, and there may need to be some modifications made before it would represent every kind of install. (A few things have changed with the directory layout, but most is still valid. This was correct for version 2.8)

Roman Soldier

His sandals gave him away. I only noticed them because I had seen some strange bug run across the sidewalk in front of me. There was no mistaking it though, it was a roman soldier, calmly standing there, loading shopping into the boot of a car. I tried to act normal, pretend I had not caught him out. I thought those Romans were extinct ? Just goes to show you can’t take anything for granted. I didn’t look up, I just kept on walking like I saw time travelers every day and didn’t care. I peeked over my shoulder a bit further on , but he was gone.
