I spent a good while building a high availability infrastructure for LondonTown.com. We built our webserver infrastructure on an automated installation system called FAI. Since this is a rather complex but critical system, it needed to be explained in a way that people found interesting. I do have a kind of obsession with visual technical documentation, so, made this diagramin an attempt to communicate how the whole system worked.
If you happen to be interested in FAI, or visual technical documentation in general, I would be happy to get some feedback. I would be especially interested in whether or not anyone found this document actually useful! The environment defined is perhaps not entirely generic, and there may need to be some modifications made before it would represent every kind of install. (A few things have changed with the directory layout, but most is still valid. This was correct for version 2.8)
